Buds Privacy & Data
How the current Buds release stores workspace data and handles backups before accounts and server storage arrive.
Buds v0.1.84 is local-first. This version does not require an account and does not store your task workspace on a Pyips server. Your working Buds data is stored by your browser on the device where you use the app.
What Buds stores
Buds stores the workspace data required to run the application, including boards, sections, tasks, sub-tasks, notes, tags, preferences, notifications, version/migration state, and backup-management metadata. Depending on browser support and the features you choose, some larger or structured local data may use browser-managed storage such as IndexedDB.
Backups
Manual workspace backups are files that you explicitly download. On supported browsers, automatic backups can write full-workspace JSON files into a location you approve through the browser's folder picker. Pyips does not silently choose or gain access to arbitrary folders on your device.
Disconnecting a backup folder forgets Buds's saved access and does not delete your files. Buds only deletes files it can prove it created and that still match its recorded size and SHA-256 fingerprint. Whole-folder deletion is offered only when Buds can prove the folder was created by Buds and an audit finds no unknown or changed content.
Network and cloud storage
The current release has no Buds account system or cloud workspace synchronization. Future account/server features are planned, and this page will be updated before those systems become authoritative storage for user workspaces.
Your responsibility for recovery
Browser storage can be cleared by browser settings, profile removal, device loss, storage pressure, or other local events. If your Buds data matters, keep current workspace backups outside the browser working copy.
